BELLEAIR, Fla. — Jack Wehman fired a 1-under-par 69 to lead UTSA on the final day of the American Athletic Conference Men’s Golf Championship, which wrapped up on Sunday at Pelican Golf Club (par 70/6,881 yards).
Wehman wrote down four birdies on his final-round scorecard to move up 18 places into a tie for 29th along with teammates Hunter Bott and Brock Blais at 7-over 217.
Teeing off from No. 10, Wehman overcame a pair of early bogeys with a birdie on the 529-yard, par-5 14th hole to get back to 1-over par for the round. The junior from Austin, who opened the tournament with rounds of 73 and 75, settled for another bogey on No. 17 before reeling off four pars in a row. He then enjoyed a four-hole stretch highlighted by three birdies to get to 1-under for the day, marking his team-high 11th circled number of the event. He closed out the weekend with back-to-back pars on Nos. 8-9 turn in a 69, his seventh par-or-better score of the season.
Brock Blais posted a 1-over 71 in the final round to jump eight spots into the tie for 29th. After opening with a 72-74—146, the freshman from Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, had four birdies on the final day with a three on the 483-yard 13th, a four on the 529-yard 14th and a three on the 425-yard 16th holes.
Hunter Bott also shared 29th with a 217 that included a 70 on Friday and 71 in the second round. The senior from Montgomery, Texas, had a 76 on Sunday that was headlined by a birdie on the 221-yard, par-3 15th to give him nine for the weekend.
David Harrison was two shots behind his teammates in a tie for 41st with a 219. The senior from Trophy Club, Texas, logged his third 3-over 73 of the tournament on Sunday on the strength of five birdies with four coming as part of a 2-under 33 on the front side.
Walker Franklin finished 57th with a 73-76-78—227 to close out the UTSA lineup.
Meanwhile, the Roadrunners finished 12th with an 870 (288-293-289), only one shot behind Temple and seven back of 10th-place East Carolina
No. 48 South Florida captured the team title with a 12-under 828 behind individual medalist Jack Peacock, who carded an 11-under 199 (69-66-64). No. 42 SMU (835) and Wichita State (842) rounded out the top three.
