Bott paces Roadrunners in second round of AAC Championship

BELLEAIR, Fla. — Hunter Bott registered a 1-over-par scorecard to pace UTSA in the second round of the American Athletic Conference Men’s Golf Championship, which teed off on Saturday at Pelican Golf Club (par 70/6,881 yards).

Bott posted a 71 and now is tied for 19th place with a 1-over 141 through 36 holes of the 54-hole tournament. The senior from Montgomery, Texas, bounced back from a triple bogey on his opening hole, the 462-yard, par-4 10th, with five birdies the rest of the way to remain in the top 20 individuals.

Starting the day at even par, Bott moved to 5-over after the triple and back-to-back bogeys on Nos. 12-13 before heating up with birdies on the 529-yard, par-5 14th and the 378-yard, par-4 17th. He added a trio of birdies as part of a bogey-free front nine that resulted in a 3-under 32 to get back to 1-over for the weekend.

Meanwhile, the Roadrunners are in 11th place with a 581 (288-293), two shots ahead of UAB and a pair of strokes behind Temple.

Brock Blais and David Harrison are part of a four-way tie for 37th at 6-over 146.

Playing in his home state, Blais followed a 72 on Friday with a 74 today that was highlighted by back-to-back birdies on the 529-yard, par-5 14th and the 221-yard, par-3 15th holes.

Harrison, a senior from Trophy Club, Texas, logged his second straight 73 on the strength of three birdies, writing down a three on the 328-yard first, the 369-yard sixth and the 381-yard 11th holes.

Jack Wehman and Walker Franklin round out the UTSA lineup in 47th (73-75—148) and 48th (73-76—149), respectively.

No. 42 SMU and No. 48 South Florida share the 36-hole lead at 8-under 552, three shots ahead of Memphis.

South Florida’s Jake Peacock and North Texas’ Tucker Allen are deadlocked atop the individual leaderboard at 5-under 135.
