Westward swing on Track’s weekend slate

SAN ANTONIO – The Roadrunners will head west this weekend, with three meets in Southern California from Thursday to Sunday, taking on the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate, Bryan Clay Invitational and Beach Invitational in Long Beach and Azusa. The Roadrunners are competing in the Golden State for the third consecutive season.

After taking a week without competition, the Roadrunners are coming off a busy weekend to start the month with the 96th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays and Bobcat Invitational.

Competition will kick off on Thursday, April 11, at Long Beach State’s Jack Rose Track with the single-day Pacific Coast Intercollegiate. In the meet’s seventh iteration, the Roadrunners will compete with athletes from more than 60 programs from coast to coast, a variety of club and unattached performers, in addition to national team representatives. The Roadrunners have 30 entries in 18 events to start off the weekend’s action. Setting off throws, jumps and running events at 8 a.m. PT, UTSA opens with the hammer throw, high jump, discus, shot put and long jump. On the track, the 5,000-meter starts at 9 a.m. PT, ahead of the 3,000-meter steeplechase, 1,500-meter, 800-meter, 100-meter hurdles, 100-meter, 400-meter hurdles and 200-meter.

At the same competition facility, Jack Rose Track, on Friday, April 12 and Saturday, April 13, Long Beach State will host the Beach Invitational for the 14th time, pitting UTSA against nearly 70 programs from across nationwide conferences, along with a plethora of unattached and club athletes. Track events will start early on Friday, April 12, as the Roadrunners have 55 entries across 25 events of the two-day meet. The first UTSA event on the schedule will be the long jump at 9:30 a.m. PT, ahead of the hammer throw, 3,000-meter steeplechase, high jump, 1,500-meter, 400-meter, 100-meter, 800-meter and 200-meter. Competition will resume Saturday, April 13, with more long jump, high jump, triple jump, shot put, discus, 4x100-meter relay, 100-meter hurdles, 400-meter, 400-meter hurdles and closing up the meet with the 4x400-meter relays.

Happening simultaneously on the north side of the Los Angeles metro in Azusa, the Bryan Clay Invitational will also run Friday and Saturday at Azusa Pacific’s Cougar Athletic Stadium, with a six-member distance contingent representing UTSA in the 1,500-meter, 800-meter and 5,000-meter. The half mile and 5k are on Friday’s slate, with the 1500m on Saturday.

Up next, the Roadrunners will head back to College Station for the second time in a month, taking up the Alumni Muster on April 20 at E.B. Cushing Stadium. UTSA will close off the month and the regular season with the Texas Invitational in Austin on April 27.
