Bott’s third straight top-10 finish guides UTSA to sixth at Sea Best Invitational

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. — Hunter Bott posted his third straight top-10 finish to lead the UTSA men’s golf team to a sixth-place showing at the Sea Best Invitational, which wrapped up Tuesday at TPC Sawgrass Dye’s Valley (par 70/6,873 yards).

Bott ended up with a share of seventh place by firing a 1-over-par 211 during the 54-hole event. The senior from Montgomery, Texas, entered the day in the top 10 after posting an even-par 140 (71-69) on Monday. He carded a 1-over 71 that featured back-to-back birdies on Nos. 5-6 en route to turning in his eighth career top 10.

The Roadrunners placed sixth with an 866 (297-280-289), one shot behind FGCU and three ahead of Lipscomb in the 15-team field won by Florida (842). This marked UTSA’s third straight and fourth overall top-10 team finish of the 2023-24 season.

Playing in his hometown, Brock Blais tied for 21st in the 84-man field. The 2022 Florida Class 2A state champion for nearby Ponte Vedra High School, he posted a 74 in the final round on the strength of three birdies to earn the top finish of his true freshman campaign.

Jack Wehman matched Bott with UTSA’s low scorecard of the final round, firing a 71 behind birdies on the 326-yard, par-4 seventh, the 229-yard, par-3 11th and 402-yard, par-4 15th holes. The junior from Austin jumped 15 spots into a tie for 37th with a 220 (78-71-71).

David Harrison was one shot behind Wehman in a tie for 43rd with a 221. After opening with a 76-72—148 on Monday, the senior from Trophy Club, Texas, registered a 73 behind 16 pars.

Christian Rodriguez rounded out the UTSA lineup in 77th (76-79-77—232).

The Roadrunners will return to the course on Feb. 12-13 when they travel to Montgomery, Texas, for the Bentwater Invitational.
