UTSA continues winning ways with victory against Lamar

HOUSTON – The UTSA women's tennis team extended their winning streak to three matches, defeating Lamar, 4-1, on Saturday afternoon in Houston. 
 
"Well fought match today," head coach Ki Kroll said. "I was especially happy with our doubles. Looking forward to our rival match tomorrow against Sam Houston. Birds Up!"
 
The Roadrunners went up 1-0 early after sweeping all three doubles courts to secure the doubles point. At the No. 1 court, Aleksandra Zlatarova and Fatima Gutierrez defeated Lamar's Femke Tjon-A-Joe and Margarita Nikonorova by a score of 6-2. Alexandra Weir and Adeliya Mukhutdinova beat Jayci Wong and Saloni Tamang at the third court to secure the doubles point, 6-3. Finally, Magda Tuells and Eva Beyebach completed the doubles sweep by defeating the Cardinals' duo of Ana Jolic and Noelia Lorca at the second court, 7-6 (6). 
 
The match tied up at 1-1 as UTSA lost the sixth singles spot due to having no player to compete. The Roadrunners then fought to win three singles points to secure the win. Gutierrez defeated Jolic at the No. 3 spot by set scores of 6-2 and 6-1. At the second court, Weir took down the Lamar's Lorca by 7-6 (3), 6-2. Finally, Tuells secured the UTSA victory as she beat the Cardinals' Nikonorova by set scored of 6-3 and 7-6 (6). The Roadrunners extended their winning streak to three matches with a 4-1 victory over Lamar.
 
The Roadrunners improve to a 3-2 record, while the Lamar falls to a 1-4 record. 
 
UP NEXT: The Roadrunners head to Huntsville, Texas, to face Sam Houston on Saturday at 1 p.m. (CT).
