UTSA hosts NSU and UIW in Saturday doubleheader

SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA women's tennis returns home to host a doubleheader on Saturday at UTSA Tennis Center, including a 10 a.m. match against Northwestern State and a 4 p.m. match against UIW.
 
UTSA holds a 7-4 record after going 2-1 last weekend in Las Vegas, including a 4-1 win over Utah Tech and a 4-1 win over Kansas City. Aleksandra Zlatarova leads the Roadrunners with an outstanding 9-1 record at the No. 1 singles spot. She also has a 7-3 record at the top doubles spot with teammates Lexie Weir, Magda Tuells and Fatima Gutierrez. Three more Roadrunners have multiple wins in singles action, including Weir with eight wins, Tuells with six wins and Gutierrez who has four wins. 
 
The Lady Demons have a 5-1 record after defeating UL Monroe, 4-3, on Tuesday on a five-match winning streak currently. Northwestern State has a 16-14 lead over UTSA in the all-time series. The teams last played on Feb. 18, 2022, when the Roadrunners fell to the Lady Demons, 6-1. Tjasa Klevisar and Dorota Szczygielska have split time at the No. 1 and 2 spots as Klevisar has a 5-1 record and Szczygielska has a 4-1 record. Szczygielska has a 5-1 record at the No. 3 doubles spot, along with teammate Renske Ubachs. 
 
The Cardinals have a 5-3 record after a 6-1 loss to New Mexico State on Feb. 18. UTSA has a 9-0 advantage over UIW in the all-time series. UTSA and UIW last played each other on March 23, 2021, when the Roadrunners defeated the Cardinals, 7-0. UIW's No. 1 singles player Brandelyn Fulgenzi holds a 5-3 record.
