Roadrunners ready for Bayou City Collegiate Classic

SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA men's golf team will make the drive east along I-10 to Houston for the Bayou City Collegiate Classic, which will be held Monday-Tuesday, Feb. 20-21, at Westwood Golf Club (par 72/7,184 yards).
 
The Roadrunners will go with a lineup of Jack Wehman, Christian Fanfelle, Brayden Bare, David Harrison and Hunter Bott to compete against Abilene Christian, Houston, Houston Christian, UIW, Lamar, Louisiana, ULM, Oral Roberts, Rice, Sam Houston, Southern Illinois, Southern Miss, Stephen F. Austin, UT Arlington and UTRGV in the 54-hole event. 
 
The field will play 36 holes on Monday and the final round is slated for Tuesday. 
 
UTSA is coming off a tie for eighth place at the Sea Best Invitational on Jan. 30-31 in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. Fanfelle led the way by finishing in a tie for 26th at 6-over-par 216 (70-71-75). 
 
Fanfelle paces the Roadrunners with 71.94 stroke average and the super senior from San Antonio owns three top-20 finishes this season, highlighted by a fifth-place showing after firing a 9-under 207 (68-70-69) at the Trinity Forest Invitational in October.
 
Bott ranks second on the squad with a 73.5 average in a campaign headlined by a 13th-place tie at The Clerico.
 
Harrison and Wehman are close behind at 73.76 and 73.88, respectively, while Bare totes a 75.62 mark.
 
The Roadrunners last played in the Bayou City Collegiate Classic in 2021, placing fifth out of 17 teams with a 10-under 854 (280-294-280). Fanfelle and Bott finished in a tie for 16th at 2-under 214.
 
UTSA has competed in the Bayou City eight times previously with a top finish of second in 2019 behind individual medalist Collin Clark's 5-under 211 (70-68-73).
