UTSA heads to Las Vegas for trio of matches

LAS VEGAS – The UTSA women's tennis team heads to Las Vegas for three matches this Friday-Sunday, hosted on UNLV's Fertitta Tennis Complex. The Roadrunners open the weekend on Friday against Utah Tech, before facing UNLV on Saturday and Kansas City on Sunday. All matches are set for a 10 a.m. PT/12 p.m. CT start. 
 
UTSA holds a 5-3 record after a 4-1 victory over Texas State on Feb. 12. The Roadrunners are currently on a four-match winning streak, defeating Lamar, 4-1, on Feb. 4 and Sam Houston, 4-3, on Feb. 5. Aleksandra Zlatarova leads the Roadrunners with a 6-1 record at the No. 1 singles spot. She also has a 4-3 record at the top doubles spot with teammates Lexie Weir and Fatima Gutierrez. Three more Roadrunners have multiple wins in singles action, including Weir and Magda Tuells who each have five wins and Gutierrez who has four wins. 
 
The Trailblazers have a 0-5 record to start the season, after falling to Idaho, 4-3, on Feb. 11. Friday's match will be the first time UTSA and Utah Tech have played each other, after Utah Tech made the transition to Division I in 2020. The Trailblazers' No. 1 singles player Rachel Mellor has started the season with a 0-3 record, also going 1-4 in doubles action with teammate Annemiek Sterk.
 
The Rebels hold perfect 3-0 record to begin the 2023 campaign, after defeating Idaho, 6-1, on Feb. 10. UTSA and UNLV last played each other on March 19, 2022, when the Roadrunners fell to the Rebels, 4-0. The Rebels lead the all-time series by 3-1 over the Roadrunners. UNLV's No. 1 singles player Molly Helgesson holds a 3-0 record, along with No. 3 player Salsa Aher and No. 6 player Aura Fang. 
 
The Roos have a 3-5 record after falling to Creighton, 5-2, on Tuesday. UTSA and Kansas City have played each once before on March 4, 2017, when the Roadrunners fell to the Roos, 4-3. Kansas City's No. 1 singles player Michela Xibilia holds a 3-5 record, along with 3-3 doubles record with teammate Laura Munoz-Baroja. 
 
UP NEXT: The Roadrunners return home to host a pair of matches next Saturday, Feb. 25. UTSA will host Northwestern State at 10 a.m., before hosting UIW at 4 p.m.
