Jenkins puts up 30-plus, UTSA loses close battle to UTEP

SAN ANTONIO – Jordyn Jenkins set a new career high 37 points to lead the Roadrunners, but the UTSA women's basketball team fell to UTEP, 74-67, on Wednesday night at the Convocation Center. 
 
GAME LEADERS
Jordyn Jenkins led the team with a career-high 37 points scored, adding 11 rebounds to that to complete her third double-double of the season. Jenkins also led the team with three blocks. Kyra White led the team with seven assists, while also contributing eight boards. The Roadrunners had the advantage in the paint with 32 points to 30 points. UTSA also led with 14 second chance points to UTEP's six. 
 
BREAKDOWN OF THE GAME
The Miners scored first with two field goals to take a 4-0 lead. Hailey Atwood scored the first points for UTSA with a driving layup, earning a free throw to make it a 4-3 lead. UTEP went on a nine-point run in the last four minutes of the quarter to jump out to a 17-9 lead. The Roadrunners came out hot in the second quarter, tying the game up as they went on a seven-point scoring run. A hook shot by Jenkins with 6:51 on the clock tied the game up at 19-19. The second quarter went back and forth but the Miners had the upper hand, heading to the half with a 35-25 lead. 
 
The Roadrunners continued to chop away at their deficit, using a 22-point third quarter to cut UTSA's deficit to just three points. A layup made by Atwood with 4:46 on the clock got UTSA within two, ensuing a fire between the teams. They battled back and forth through the remainder of the third period. A three-point jump shot by Jordyn Jenkins cut the game to 50-47, in favor of UTEP heading to the final quarter. The final quarter was another battle as the Roadrunners scored 20 points to the Miners' 24 points. The fourth quarter saw two ties from a Jenkins three-pointer with 8:50 on the clock and a White pull up jump shot with 5:24 on the clock. Fouls late in the game did not allow UTSA to complete the comeback, falling to UTEP, 74-67. 
 
UTSA's record falls to 3-11 (1-4 in C-USA action), while UTEP's record improves to 11-3 (4-1 in C-USA play). 
 
UP NEXT: The Roadrunners continue their week at home as they welcome Charlotte on Saturday. The game is set to tip-off at 2 p.m. (CT) at the Convocation Center and will be streamed on ESPN+.
