UTSA hosts ACU in home opener

SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA women's basketball team is set to host Abilene Christian on Sunday in the Roadrunners' home opener of the 2022 campaign. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. (CT) at the Convocation Center and will be streamed on CUSA.tv. 
 
LEADING THE ROADRUNNERS
Through the first two games, USC transfer Jordyn Jenkins leads the team in scoring with 33 points, averaging 16.5 per game. Fellow newcomer from the Trojans Kyra White leads the team with 12 assists, while also accounting for eight rebounds. Returner Elyssa Coleman has done a phenomenal job on defense, leading the team with 15 rebounds (11 defensive) and six blocks. 
 
ROADRUNNER DEBUTS
Five Roadrunners (two transfers and three freshmen) made their debut in the season opener at SFA on Nov. 7, 2022 - Jordyn Jenkins, Kyra White, Sidney Love, Maya Linton and Siena Guttadauro.
 
Freshman Alexis Parker made her debut on Nov. 16, 2022, when UTSA played TCU in Fort Worth. 
 
LAST TIME OUT
The Roadrunners went head-to-head with the TCU Horned Frogs on Wednesday, Nov. 16. Coleman recorded her first double-double of the season with career highs in points (12) and rebounds (12), while also recording five blocks. Jenkins led the team with 16 points, while two more Roadrunners put up double-digit scoring games – Guttadauro (11 points) and Deborah Nwakamma (10 points). UTSA and TCU battled back-and-forth all night in a game that saw seven lead changes and one tie, but ultimately fell to the Big 12 opponent by a final score of 74-67 to fall to an overall record of 0-2. 
 
SCOUTING THE WILDCATS
The Wildcats own a 2-1 record after a 77-36 win over NAIA school University of the Southwest (N.M.) on Wednesday. Abilene Christian was picked fifth in the preseason Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Coaches' Poll. The Wildcats ended their 2021-22 campaign in the second round of the WAC Tournament, falling to No, 8 seed UTRGV, 70-73.  
 
Maleeah Langstaff and Raychael Harjo pace ACU with 34 points apiece. WAC Preseason Coaches' Second Team honoree Bella Earle had notched 26 rebounds and eight assists so far. Another preseason honoree Madi Miller has accounted for 14 rebounds, eight assists and three steals. 
 
SERIES HISTORY
UTSA leads the all-time series, 3-2. The Roadrunners and Wildcats last played each other on Nov. 13, 2021, when UTSA fell to ACU, 53-72. A few current Roadrunners saw action in the game, led by Queen Ulabo who put up a double-double consisting of 12 points and 10 rebounds. 
 
UP NEXT: The Roadrunners hit the road during Thanksgiving week for the Las Vegas Invitational, playing Missouri State and St. John's on Nov. 25 and 26, respectively.
