SAN DIEGO – The UTSA women's tennis team wrapped up their fall schedule at the SDSU Classic #2, including a doubles bracket win by pair of Aleksandra Zlatarova and Fatima Gutierrez.
SDSU CLASSIC #2
The duo of Aleksandra Zlatarova and Fatima Gutierrez won the east black doubles draw. In the quarterfinals, the pair defeated UCSD's Naomi Nguyen and Sophie Pearson by 6-2. Zlatarova and Gutierrez then beat SDSU's Rania Azziz and Tamara Arnold by a final score of 7-5. The duo completed the bracket win with a 6-1 victory over UCSD's Gabriella Pachl and Kelly Leung.
In the east red doubles draw, the pair of Magda Tuells and Eva Beyebach battled but fell to SDSU's Cecile Morin and Alexandria Von Tersch Pohrer by a final score of 7–6. The duo then moved to the west draw where they defeated the pair of Minnesota's Aiva Schmitz/Nevada's Mathilde Sarcelet by 6-3. Tuells and Beyebach then defeated Minnesota's Sofia Pizzoni and Zeyneb Sarioglan by 6-2 to win the west draw.
In singles action, Zlatarova was victorious over Eastern Washington's Scout Mathews in a 5-7, 6-0, 6-3 three set battle in the gold east quarterfinals. Zlatarova then fell to SDSU's Tamara Arnold by scores of 7-6(3), 6-0 in the semifinal matchup. She faced Eastern Washington's Isabella Foshee, defeating her in a three-set battle by scores of 3-6, 6-0, 6-3.
In the black east draw, Gutierrez fell to Minnesota's Lucy Lu by 6-4, 6-3 in the quarterfinals. She then faced UCSD's Naomi Nguyen in the west draw, falling in a relentless three-set battle by 7-6(4), 6(3)-7, 3-6. Gutierrez went head-to-head with UCSD's Grace Gamal, falling by set scores of 6-3 and 6-4.
Tuells competed in the red draw, defeating Eastern Washington's Taylor Andersen (6-0, 6-3) in the quarterfinals and Minnesota's Sofia Pizzoni (6-4, 3-6, 6-1) in the semifinals. In the final matchup, she fell to Nevada's Wiem Boubaker by set scored of 6-1 and 6-3.
In the silver draw, Beyebach defeated Kenzington Mann by set scores of 6-1 and 7-6(4) in the quarterfinal round. She then fell to Nevada's Mathilde Sarcelet by 6-2, 7-6(3). Beyebach defeated UCSD's Devika Pantpratinidhi by a first set score of 6-4 and Pantpratinidhi retired in the second set with Beyebach leading 3-2.
