UTSA wraps up ITA Men’s All-American Championships appearance

TULSA, Okla. – Three different Roadrunners competed in the ITA Men's All-American Championships this past weekend in Tulsa, Okla.
 
Sebastian Rodriguez and Alan Magadan began competition on Saturday, Oct. 1, as a part of the prequalifying action. The two would need to place in the top 16 of prequalifying to participate in the qualifying round. Tiago Torres began play on Monday, Oct. 3, thanks to his preseason ranking which allowed him to begin at the qualification round. Rodriguez and Magadan also competed as a team in the doubles draw on Monday.
 
Rodriguez performed extremely well on the weekend in the singles prequalifying action, going 3-1 and falling one match win short of the top 16. Rodriguez began the weekend with a Saturday morning win over Pacific's Andre Rodeia (6-4, 6-1) and a Saturday afternoon win over Nic Meister of the University of Illinois (6-2, 6-0). Rodriguez advanced to Sunday action where he downed Joshua Dous Karpenschif of Florida State (6-2, 6-2). Rodriguez's run came to an end in the round of 32, as he fell to Harsh Parikh (6-4, 6-3) of the University of Pennsylvania.
 
Magadan also began competition Saturday morning but dropped his opening round of 256 match to Francisco Pini of Oklahoma State (77-65, 77-63). Magadan then had a prequalifying consolation match that he won over Luc Boulier of Indiana University (6-4, 6-2).
 
Tiago Torres began his qualifying round action on Monday, Oct. 3, falling to Nishesh Basavareddy of Stanford (6-3, 1-6, 2-6) in the opening round.

Magadan and Rodriguez faced a familiar opponent in the opening round of doubles action as they faced a doubles team from Conference USA opponent Middle Tennessee. The duo of Magadan and Rodriguez were upended in the first round, falling to MTSU 6-1, 6-3.

UTSA will travel to Waco, Texas to compete in the ITA Texas Regionals which take place from Oct. 13-17.
