UTSA claims seventh place at Trinity Forest Invitational

DALLAS — Led by top-15 finishes from Christian Fanfelle and David Harrison, the UTSA men's golf team finished in seventh place at the Trinity Forest Invitational, which wrapped up on Tuesday at Trinity Forest Golf Club (par 72/7,372 yards).

Fanfelle finished in sole possession of fifth with a 9-under-par 207 and Harrison tied for 13th after carding a 5-under 211 to help the Roadrunners place seventh in the 17-team field at 5-under 859. Entering the final round in seventh at 2-under 574 (290-284), UTSA posted a 3-under 285 on Tuesday to remain in seventh. The Roadrunners ended up five shots ahead of North Texas (864) and only nine strokes behind sixth-place Houston.

Fanfelle's 207 is the top 54-hole score of his collegiate career and is tied for the fifth-best tally in program history. It also marks the best total for a Roadrunner since Sean Meehan carded a 205 to win the 2018 Wyoming Cowboy Classic.

The senior from San Antonio entered the final day at 6-under 138 after turning in rounds of 68 and 70. Fanfelle logged his second sub-70 round of the week and 15th as a collegian on the strength of four birdies, including back-to-back on Nos. 2-3. He finished the tournament with 13 birdies and 37 pars while ending up just four shots behind the individual medalist, Nathan Petronzio of SMU (68-67-68—203).

Meanwhile, Harrison recorded his third eagle in as many days as part of a 4-under 68 to match his collegiate-best round set earlier this season at the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate. The senior from Trophy Club, Texas, wrote down a three on the 570-yard, par-5 16th hole for the second straight round to go along with a three on the 550-yard, par-5 10th on Sunday, finishing the event with the most eagles in the field.

Harrison, who opened with a 72-71—143 on Sunday and Monday, jumped into a three-way tie for 13th place after his 68 on Tuesday that featured five birdies and the eagle, notching his best finish of the season.

Jack Wehman fired a 1-under 71 behind five of his 11 birdies for the week with three coming as part of a 35 on the front nine. The sophomore from Austin finished in a tie for 54th at 4-over 220 (77-72-71).

Brayden Bare was one shot behind his teammate in a tie for 61st while making his debut in the UTSA lineup. The freshman from Waco Midway High School carded rounds of 73, 71 and 77 and ended up with nine birdies for the event.

Carson Gallaher rounded out the UTSA lineup in 90th (77-78-78—233).

Little Rock claimed the team title with a 31-under 833, followed by SMU (-28) and Baylor (-23) in the top three.

The Roadrunners will return to the course on Oct. 24-25 at The Clerico in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
