Carreon, UTSA finish sixth at Dale McNamara Invitational

BROKEN ARROW, Okla. — Camryn Carreon tied for sixth place to lead the UTSA women's golf team to a sixth-place finish at the Dale McNamara Invitational, which concluded Tuesday at Cedar Ridge Country Club (par 72/6,302 yards).

Carreon posted a 1-over-par 217 to help guide the Roadrunners to an 888 (303-292-293), six shots ahead of a tie for seventh between BYU and James Madison and only a pair of strokes out of a fourth-place deadlock between North Texas and Sacramento State.

After opening with a 75, Carreon posted her second straight 1-under 71 scorecard on the final day of the 54-hole event. The senior from San Antonio birdied the 158-yard, par-3 sixth, the 387-yard, par-4 ninth and 364-yard, par-4 12th holes in her final round to help propel her from a share of 12th into sixth. She ended up only four shots behind individual medalist Miu Takahashi of Nebraska in the 75-player field.

Morgan Ellison was one shot behind her teammate in a tie for 10th with a 2-over 218 in logging the top finish of her young collegiate career. The sophomore out of Peachtree City, Georgia, wrote down three of her team-high eight birdies in her final-round 74 one day after firing a 3-under 69.

Daniela Abonce grabbed a share of 16th place with a 221 in just her third collegiate tournament. The freshman from Veracruz, Mexico, saved her best round for last, using a trio of birdies en route to an even-par 72 after she opened with a 75-74—149 on Monday.

Olivia Williams and Hunter Nugent rounded out the UTSA lineup in 67th (80-81-76—237) and 69th (78-78-82—238), respectively, while Lauren Rios tied for 59th (77-80-77—234) competing as an individual.

Tulsa shot an 868 to win the team title by one shot ahead of Nebraska, while USF was third (874) in the 13-team field.

The Roadrunners will return to action on Oct. 17-18 at the Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational in Lawrence, Kansas.
