Roadrunners impressed with ITA Texas Regional doubles performances

FORT WORTH, Texas – The UTSA women's tennis team had an impressive showing in their first tournament of the fall schedule, advancing all the way to the round of 16 in doubles competition at ITA Texas Regionals in Fort Worth this past week. 
 
In doubles action, the duo of Lexie Weir/Adeliya Mukhutdinova defeated TCU's Yu-Chin Tsai and Margaret Polk by a score of 8-6, advancing to the round of 32 where the duo defeated Lamar's Femke Tjon A Joe and Noelia Lorca, 8-6. In the round of 16, the duo battled with Rice's No. 1 seeded duo Diae El Jardi and Maria Budin, eventually falling 8-4. 
 
The matching of Keegan McCain and Fatima Gutierrez defeated UT-Arlington's Bruna Casasampere and Ana Paula Jimenes by 8-3, before going on to take down TCU's 15th-seeded pair Destinee Martins and Jade Otway, 8 (7)-7 (5). The pair went on the round of 16 to face another seeded team, this time the No. 6 duo of Marte Lambrecht and Allison Zipoli from Rice, falling to them by 8-3. 
 
The pair of Magda Tuells and Aleksandra Zlatarova defeated Prairie View A&M's Aleyla Wooten and Gabrielle Leslie by a score of 8-2. Tuells and Zlatarova went on to defeat the No.2 seeded duo of SMU's Jackie Nylander and Hadley Doyle, 8-6. In the round of 16, the pair fell to North Texas' Olivia Malm and Gloria Alogo Piqueras by a score of 8-5. 
 
In the singles qualifying first round, Mukhutdinova fell to Tarleton State's Elsa Boisson by scores of 7-6, 3-6, 5-10. McCain fell to Houston's Gabriela Cortes, 2-6 and 3-6. Eva Beyebach lost to UT-Arlington's Nika Novikova by 4-6, 3-6. Tuells defeated Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Victoire Delattre in the first round (6-0, 6-4), before falling to Abilene Christian's Maryjoe Crisologo (5-7, 4-6) in the second round. 
 
Weir defeated Lamar's Ana Jolic by two straight sets of 6-3. Advancing to the second round of the qualifying draw, Weir defeated Texas A&M's Avery Esquivel by sets of 6-1 and 6-4. Weir then advanced to the main draw bracket, where she took UT-Arlington's Ana Paula Jimenez to three sets in the first round, eventually beating her by scores of 6-1, 6-7, and 10-8. She then fell to Baylor's Paula Baranano by scores of 6-1, 4-6, 8-10 in the second round of the main draw. 
 
In the first round of main draw singles, Gutierrez fell to Prairie View A&M's Victoria Fuenmayor Castillo in two sets, 6-3 and 6-4. Zlatarova defeated UT-Arlington's Liz Chileno by 7-5 and 6-1, before falling to Texas Tech's Cristina Tiglea in the second round by 6-3, 1-6, 8-10. 
 
UP NEXT: The Roadrunners head to Cary, N.C., to compete in the ITA All-American Championships at NC State from Oct. 1-9.
