UTSA to head to Lake Charles for first fall competition

SAN ANTONIO – After competing in an unattached event this past weekend, UTSA's men's tennis program is gearing up for its first official fall competition this weekend as they head to Lake Charles, La. for the ULL Hidden Dual.

Four different Roadrunners competed this past weekend. Among the solid performances was junior Sebastian Rodriguez who, in the singles draw, defeated two Big 12 student-athletes on his way to making the quarterfinals. In the first round of the singles event, Rodriguez downed Ole Wallin (TTU) 6-3, 6-1 before upsetting the number one seed Mark Mandlik (OU) in the round of 16, 6-2, 6-2.

Also pulling a thrilling upset was Tomás Pinho who dropped the singles draw number two seed, Nick Lagaev from the University of Arizona, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4. Pinho would then lose in the round of 32. UTSA student-athletes were responsible for dispatching both top seeds in the singles draw.

The Roadrunners had two pairs participate in the men's doubles portion of the tournament. Pinho teamed up with Tiago Torres while Rodriguez matched with Alan Magadan. Both squads were however knocked out in the round of 16.

Torres also participated in the bronze draw and made it all the way to the finals before withdrawing to Tyler Stewart of TTU.
