SAN ANTONIO – A total of 13 returning UTSA baseball members are currently competing in summer collegiate leagues across the country.
Eight Roadrunners are playing in the Texas Collegiate League and four are suiting up in the California Collegiate League while pitcher Luke Malone is pitching in the heralded Cape Cod League in Massachusetts.
Ryan Beaird – San Luis Obispo Blues – California Collegiate League
2022: Made 21 appearances mixing between starts and relief and held a 2-3 record with a 7.31 ERA. Threw the fifth most innings on the team, striking out 36 batters.
Garrett Brooks – San Luis Obispo Blues – California Collegiate League
2022: redshirted season.
Sammy Diaz – Walnut Creek Crawdads – California Collegiate League
2022: Batted .309 (46-149) with 27 runs, eight doubles, four homers and 29 RBI in his first year with UTSA, appearing in 47 games with 41 starts. Was named to the Buster Posey Watchlist.
Daniel Garza – Seguin River Monsters – Texas Collegiate League
2022: Worked in 13 games with five starts in 2022, owning a 4.01 ERA over 42.2 innings, allowing 47 hits and 24 walks, striking out 41.
Matt King – Walnut Creek Crawdads – California Collegiate League
2022: Slashed .237/.348/.346 across 51 games with 43 starts. Was UTSA's main shortstop and was named to the Conference USA All-Freshman team. Had 37 hits with 12 doubles and 28 RBI.
Fischer Kingsbery – Seguin River Monsters – Texas Collegiate League
2022: Posted a 6.00 ERA over 16 relief appearances, working 21 innings, allowing 20 hits and ten walks while striking out 26.
Luke Malone – Falmouth Commodores – Cape Cod League
2022: Went 9-3 with two saves in 19 appearances and 11 starts while posting a 2.67 ERA which was the third lowest in C-USA.
Braylon Owens – Victoria Generals – Texas Collegiate League
2022: Worked in 16 games with two starts in his freshman campaign, owning a 3-2 record and a 5.40 ERA, walking 24 and striking out 36 in 30 innings.
Garrett Poston – Acadiana Cane Cutters – Texas Collegiate League
2022: Batted .311 (41-for-132) with 27 runs, seven doubles, two triples, two homers and 26 RBI. Appeared in 43 games with 35 starts … was the primary designated hitter for the Roadrunners.
Drake Smith – Seguin River Monsters – Texas Collegiate League
2022: Made 10 appearances with four starts on the year after transferring in. Pitched 12.2 innings where he allowed 23 hits and nine walks while punching out 22.
Isaiah Walker – Victoria Generals – Texas Collegiate League
2022: Played in 39 games with 22 starts in his first collegiate season. Batted .231, totaling 18 hits with three home runs.
Jay Ward – Acadiana Cane Cutters – Texas Collegiate League
2022: Appeared in one game where he went a third of an inning, allowing two hits and two runs.
Ryan Ward – Acadiana Cane Cutters – Texas Collegiate League
2022: Worked in 14 games with seven starts in his sophomore year, going 1-0 with a 4.82 ERA in 18.2 innings, allowing 12 hits and 19 walks, striking out 17.
