UTSA opens 2022 season on Friday at Texas

SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA men's tennis team will open its 2022 season on Friday at 12 p.m. at the Texas Tennis Center against Texas.
 
The Roadrunners enter the third season under coach Sergey Avdeyev as he led the Roadrunners as the No.4 seed into the quarterfinals of the Conference USA Championship last year.
 
UTSA finished 13-8 last year, going 7-1 at home. The Roadrunners finished second in the West division of C-USA.
 
UTSA returns four exceptional players with fifth year senior Joao Ceolin (Palotina, Brazil), Javier Gonzalez (San Fernando, Chile), sophomore Sebastian Rodriguez (Trujillo, Peru) and Garret Skelly (The Woodlands, Texas).
 
UTSA welcomes five freshmen to the team to include Miguel Alonso (Veracruz, Mexico), Maxim Groysman (Bellevue, Washington), Tomas Pinho (Oporto, Portugal), Tiago Torres (Lisbon, Portugal), Danijal Muminovic (Tuzla, Bosnia), and junior transfer from Michigan State, Andrew Keene (Corpus Christi, Texas).
 
Ceolin enters 2022 with a 13-3 record in singles. Along with being named to the First team All-Conference squad, Ceolin also earned the preseason ITA ranking at No.66.
 
Gonzalez and Skelly were named to the second team all-conference USA doubles as they went 13-2 on the 2021 season.
 
Rodriguez finished his singles season 6-6 while also earning 8 wins in doubles while Skelly recorded a 7-2 singles season beside his 14 total wins in doubles.
 
Off the court- Ceolin, Gonzalez and Rodriguez were placed on the 2020-21 C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll.
