SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA men's tennis wrapped up their fall schedule over the weekend in Houston as they competed against Rice, SMU and Tulane.
"We played a lot of tennis over the weekend, and it was good for our freshman to see the intensity of what a dual match consists of," UTSA head coach Sergey Avdeyev said. "All three teams were balanced and played at a high level. I am very happy that we went 5-1 in doubles, it was a good way to finish up the fall season."
UTSA competed in the three-day event, which began on Friday starting with doubles against SMU and singles against Tulane. In doubles, Joao Ceolin and Javier Gonzales claimed an 8-7 victory over SMU's Adam Neff and Ivan Thamma. Followed by Garrett Skelly and Miguel Alonso topping SMU's Callaway Clark and Louis Cloud going 9-7. In singles, Maxime Groysman defeated Alex Bancila of Tulane with a 6-2, 6-4 victory.
On Saturday, the Roadrunners dominated over Tulane in doubles as Ceolin and Gonzalez won 8-6 over Fynn Kuenkler and Charlie Barry. Skelly and Alonso also succeeded against the Riptides defeating Benji Jacobson and Luc Hoeijans, 8-2. In singles against Rice, Ceolin won against Dylan Heap (1-6, 6-3, 7-6). Gonzales defeated Trinity Grear (6-2,6-1), and Skelly claimed victory over Campbell Salmon (6-4, 6-4).
On Sunday, Ceolin and Gonzales defeated Heap and Grear of Rice in doubles with a 8-6 win. In singles against SMU, Groysman claimed a 6-4,6-7, 6-4 win over Clark. Lastly, Alonso got a 3-6,6-3,6-4 win against Jacobson of Tulane.
