Gonzalez leads UTSA on opening day of Dale McNamara Invitational

TULSA, Okla. — Ana Gonzalez is in the top five individuals and the UTSA women's golf team is in ninth place after the opening day of the Dale McNamara Invitational on Monday at the Golf Club of Oklahoma (par 72/6,235 yards).

The first of three rounds was completed on Monday, but the second round was suspended due to darkness with most players through 14 holes, meaning scores for that round are unofficial. It will resume at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday followed immediately by the final round.

Gonzalez currently sits in a tie for fourth place at 2-under par. The senior from Mexico opened the 54-hole event with a 73 that featured three birdies. A four-time all-conference performer, she has completed 16 holes in the second round and is 3-under after writing down four birdies on a five-hole stretch. Gonzalez stands only two shots off the pace of 4-under set by UNLV's Kendall Todd.

The Roadunners are ninth at 22-over par four shots behind Fresno State and five back of New Mexico State. UTSA is three strokes in front of Texas State and eight better than host Tulsa in the 13-team field led by UNLV (-3).

Camryn Carreon and Nicole Polivchak are in a tie for 41st at 7-over par. Carreon, a junior from San Antonio, used a trio of birdies to record a 73 in the first round and she currently is 6 over through 15 holes of the second round. Meanwhile, Polivchak led all Roadrunners in the opening 18 holes with an even-par 72 on the strength of two birdies. The senior from Sarasota, Fla., is 7 over in round two with three holes remaining.

Hunter Nugent has a share of 51st at 10-over par. The junior transfer has bounced back from an 80 in the opening round, as she is 2 over with three holes left in the second round after registering three birdies so far.

Hannah Holzmann rounds out the lineup in a tie for 69th (+15) and she has posted three birdies through 34 holes.
