Holzmann, Polivchak in top 10 after first day of Texas State Invitational

KYLE, Texas — Hannah Holzmann and Nicole Polivchak both are currently in the top 10 individuals and the UTSA women's golf team is in fifth place after the first day of the Texas State Invitational, which teed off Monday at Plum Creek Golf Course (par 72/6,249 yards).
 
With scores still unofficial, Holzmann is in a three-way tie for seventh at even par and Polivchak is part of a six-way share of 10th at 1-over par with play suspended approximately halfway through the second of three rounds due to darkness.
 
That duo paced the Roadrunners in the opening round, as each shot a 2-under 70 to help UTSA post a 3-over 291 for the first round. The two-time defending tournament champions currently stand fifth at plus-10 midway through the second round.
 
Holzmann's round one featured four birdies as part of a 34 on the front nine and an eagle on the par-5 16th hole. The junior from San Antonio currently is 2 over through her first nine holes of the second round and even for the tournament.
 
Meanwhile, Polivchak matched Holzmann with an eagle on No. 16 and also wrote down a pair of birdies en route to her 2-under scorecard in the opening round. The senior out of Sarasota, Fla., currently stands 3-over par midway through her second round and 1 over for the event.
 
Camryn Carreon is in a tie for 25th at 3-over par. The reigning Conference USA Golfer of the Week fired a 74 in the opening round that was highlighted by a trio of birdies and the San Antonio native stands plus-1 through her first nine holes of round two.
 
Ana Gonzalez is in a tie for 47th at 7-over par, as the senior from Mexico has bounced back from an opening 78 to sit at 1-over par halfway through her second 18.
 
Live Hope rounds out the UTSA lineup in a tie for 55th at 10 over. The freshman from Norway made her season debut with a 77 and has used an eagle on the par-5 ninth hole to position herself at 5 over halfway through her round two.
 
Tulsa leads the 15-team team field at 12-under par while Lorena Tseng of Tulsa and Hanna Alberto of Sam Houston State are knotted atop the individual leaderboard at 11 under.
 
The second round will resume Tuesday morning followed immediately by the third round.
