SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA softball team fell via the run-rule in American Athletic Conference action on Sunday, as South Florida collected a 14-4 win in the regular season finale at Roadrunner Field.
The Roadrunners (15-41, 5-22 The American) bested the Bulls (34-21, 13-14 The American), with senior Kenzi Schultz (1-10) getting tagged with the loss and Belle Sardja (14-10) earning the win.
Freshman Brenna Jahn and redshirt freshman Kylie Forney each launched long balls on the afternoon, while senior Taylor Jensen, sophomore Madison Lenton, and junior Camryn Robillard logged hits.
USF jumped out to a 6-0 lead after plating four runs in the first and two in the second. UTSA responded in the bottom of the third, as Robillard walked ahead of a Forney home run that saw a 6-2 score line.
A solo shot in the top of the fourth increased the Bulls total, to which Jahn answered with a two-run shot that plated Lenton, cutting the Roadrunner deficit to three.
South Florida then scored seven in the fifth, and UTSA was unable to recover as the Bulls secured the 14-4 run-rule victory.
UTSA will now await its seeding in the 2024 American Athletic Conference Softball Championships, which are scheduled for May 8-11 at Wilkins Stadium on the campus of Wichita State.
