UTSA Athletics mourns loss of Brooks Thompson

SAN ANTONIO — Former UTSA head men's basketball coach Brooks Thompson passed away on Thursday, June 9, in San Antonio. He was 45.

"The UTSA family is very saddened to learn that Brooks Thompson passed away on Thursday," UTSA Associate Vice President/Director of Athletics Lynn Hickey said. "Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Michelle, his daughters, Ryan Michelle, Brooke and Addison, and the rest of his family in this difficult time."

After playing careers at Texas A&M, Oklahoma State and in the NBA, Thompson was named the fifth head coach in UTSA history in 2006 and he led the Roadrunners for 10 seasons. During his time on the UTSA bench he guided the squad to 133 wins, which ranks second in program annals, claimed the 2011 Southland Conference Tournament Championship and made an appearance in the 2011 NCAA Tournament. UTSA then defeated Alabama State in the First Four to claim the school's first-ever NCAA Tournament win in any sport.
