SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA men’s basketball program unveiled Thursday its 2009-10 schedule, highlighted by 15 home games, four contests as part of the O’Reilly Auto Parts College Basketball Experience (CBE) Classic, including a nationally-televised tilt at Iowa, and a full slate of 16 Southland Conference matchups.

“As a coaching staff, we really like this schedule,” fourth-year head coach Brooks Thompson said. “When we sit down to plan our non-conference games, we look for ways to get our team ready for conference play. We feel this schedule will absolutely do that, so we’re looking forward to the challenges it will present.”

Coming off a campaign that saw them post 19 wins, the most since 2003-04, and advance to their first Southland Conference Tournament Championship Game in six seasons, the Roadrunners will open the slate with an exhibition game against Midwestern State on Nov. 7, at the Convocation Center.

UTSA will play four games as part of the O’Reilly Auto Parts CBE Classic, its first non-conference tournament since 2005. The Roadrunners will travel to Iowa City on Nov. 15 to face the Hawkeyes in the Regional Round, and the game will be televised nationally on ESPNU. After a regular season home game against East Central on Nov. 18, the Roadrunners will travel to Richmond, Ky., for the Sub Regional Round of the CBE Classic. UTSA will play UC Irvine on Nov. 23 and Fairleigh Dickinson a day later before wrapping up the event against host Eastern Kentucky on Nov. 25.

The Roadrunners return home to host Texas Southern on Nov. 28 and Cameron on Dec. 1, before entering a challenging stretch of the schedule. UTSA will make its fourth straight trip to Stillwater, Okla., to face Oklahoma State on Dec. 5, before hosting Texas-Pan American on Dec. 7. The Roadrunners begin a three-game road swing during the holiday break with a Dec. 18 contest at Texas-Pan American, then at Colgate on Dec. 20 and Utah on Dec. 29.

UTSA will return to the Alamo City to host Houston on New Year’s Day and McMurry on Jan. 3 in the final tune-up for league play.

The Roadrunners open the Southland ledger at McNeese State on Jan. 9 and host Nicholls in their first home league contest on Jan. 13. UTSA then travels to UT Arlington on Jan. 16 before hosting Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Jan. 23, the first of five consecutive Saturday home games (Jan. 30 vs. Lamar, Feb. 6 vs. Southeastern Louisiana; Feb. 13 vs. UT Arlington; Feb. 20 vs. Sam Houston State). The two other home matchups are against Northwestern State on Feb. 24 and Texas State on March 3.

UTSA’s league road slate includes games at Texas State on Jan. 27, at Sam Houston State on Feb. 3, at Central Arkansas on Jan. 10, at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Feb. 17, at Lamar on Feb. 27 and at Stephen F. Austin on March 6.

The Southland Conference Tournament will be held on March 10-13 at the Merrell Center in Katy, Texas.
