UTSA women to open campaign at Saturday's Alamo City opener
SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will open its 2013 season bright and early on Saturday morning at the Alamo City Opener, which is being hosted by Trinity at Olmos Basin Park.
The women's 4,000-meter run is scheduled for 7:30 a.m. and Incarnate Word, Our Lady of the Lake, Texas A&M International and Texas Lutheran will join the Roadrunners and host Tigers in the field.
UTSA, which is beginning its first campaign as a member of Conference USA, returns eight runners from last year's squad that finished second in its lone season in the Western Athletic Conference.
The Roadrunners, who just missed their first league championship in 16 years by a mere three points last fall, are led by 2012 All-WAC first-team performers Alyssa Diaz (third) and Nina Herrera (seventh) and second-teamers Emily Perez (11th) and Samantha Fish (13th). UTSA went on to place fifth at the NCAA South Central Regional, which was its best showing since winning the 1996 District VI title. Herrera (18th) and Diaz (25th) led the way with all-region performances.
