SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA women's cross country team will return to action on Saturday when it competes at the TLU Invitational in Seguin. The 5,000-meter race is scheduled to get underway at 9 a.m. on the campus of Texas Lutheran University.
A total of 75 runners will participate in the meet and athletes from Concordia Texas, Prairie View A&M, Schreiner, St. Mary's, Texas A&M International, Texas A&M-Kingsville and Texas Lutheran will join the Roadrunners.
UTSA, on the strength of junior Samantha Fish's second-place performance, opened the 2012 campaign last Saturday with a dual-meet victory at Texas.
The Roadrunners, currently ranked sixth in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's South Central Regional poll, welcome back an experienced group this fall, as the team's top six scorers from last year's Southland Conference Championships all return. Juniors Nina Herrera and Alyssa Diaz both earned All-Southland accolades last fall, while Carly Kitts was tabbed the Southland Freshman of the Year.
UTSA currently sits behind Arkansas, Texas, Texas A&M, Baylor and TCU in the regional standings, while being ranked ahead of schools such as Rice (7), SMU (8) and Lamar (9).
