SAN ANTONIO —
UTSA returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Waco for the NCAA
South Central Regional. The women's 6,000-meter race is scheduled to
begin 11:15 a.m. at Cottonwood Creek Golf Course and schools from the
states of Arkansas, Louisiana and Texas will make up the field.
The Roadrunners, who are coming off a runner-up performance at the
Southland Conference Championships, will face 23 teams (Arkansas,
Arkansas State, Baylor, Houston, Houston Baptist, Lamar,
Louisiana-Monroe, LSU, McNeese State, Nicholls, North Texas, Rice, SMU, Stephen F.
Austin, TCU, Texas, Texas-Pan American, Texas A&M, Texas
A&M-Corpus Christi, Texas State, Tulane, UALR and UT Arlington) in
the race that precedes the NCAA Championships.
Bolstered by top-10 finishes by sophomores Nina Herrera and Alyssa Diaz, UTSA raced to its best showing in 12 years at the conference meet.
Herrera placed seventh and was the Roadrunners' top finisher for the seventh consecutive meet, while Diaz was two spots back of her fellow second-year teammate. Both earned all-league honors by finishing in the top 10. Carly Kitts, who finished 16th, was named Southland Freshman of the Year after the event.
The top two teams, along with the top four individuals, will advance to
the national meet, which is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 21, in Terre
Haute, Ind.
