Herrera paces Roadunners at NCAA South Central Regional

WACO Freshman Nina Herrera finished in 51st place to lead the UTSA women's cross country team at Saturday's NCAA South Central Regional.

Herrera covered the Cottonwood Creek Golf Course 6,000-meter loop in 21:52.6 to top the squad for the first time this fall. Fellow frosh Samantha Fish (62nd/22:15.6) was the next Roadrunner across the line, while Isabel Balbontin, also in her first year, was 73rd in 22:24.1.

UTSA netted 361 points and placed 15th in the 18-team field.

Rice's Nicole Mericle won the individual championship in 20:16.3, while Texas cruised to the team title with 46 points, as four of its five scorers finished in the top 10. Rice, which accounted for 71 points, was next in the standings and the Owls will join the Longhorns at the national meet.
