SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA men’s and women’s cross country teams will return to the course on Saturday morning when they compete at the NCAA South Central Regional in Waco. Schools and runners from the states of Arkansas, Louisiana and Texas will make up the field.

The women’s 6,000-meter run is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. at Cottonwood Creek Golf Course, while the men’s 10k will go off an hour later.

The Roadrunners are coming off a pair of top-five team finishes at the Southland Conference Championships two weeks ago in Beaumont.

The men, led by juniors Cole Reveal and Albert Cardenas, placed third for the second year in a row. Reveal raced to eighth in the individual standings, while Cardenas — the Roadrunners’ top performer in the previous five meets — finished one spot behind in ninth. Both earned all-conference honors for their top-10 efforts.

Meanwhile, the women were paced by freshman Samantha Fish for the fifth consecutive meet and they finished fifth. Fish collected all-conference accolades with her 10th-place showing, as she ran her first-ever 6k in 22:04.01.

The men placed eighth and the women 11th at last year’s meet, as Layne Nixon and Dana Mecke led the way with 24th-place performances, which was good for all-region honors.

The top two teams, along with the top four individuals, will advance to the NCAA Championships, which are scheduled for Nov. 22 in Terre Haute, Ind.
