SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA men's and women's cross country teams will return to the course on Friday evening when they travel south to Corpus Christi for the Islanders Splash.
The women's three-mile race is scheduled for 6 p.m. at West Guth Park, while the men's 5-mile run will follow 30 minutes later. The Roadrunners will compete against Angelo State, Texas A&M-Coprus Christi, Texas A&M-International, Texas A&M-Kingsville, Texas-Pan American and UT Arlington. St. Mary's also will be in attendance but only on the women's side.
UTSA is coming off a pair of third-place team finishes at last week's Ricardo Romo/Six Flags Fiesta Texas Classic.
Leading the way for the men was junior Albert Cardenas, who recorded a fifth-place showing, and the Converse native covered the Brooks City-Base 5k trail in 15:04. Junior Brandon Chiuminetta was three spots behind with his 15:21 clocking, while fellow third-year performer and defending champion Cole Reveal placed 12th in 15:25.
Freshman Samantha Fish, meanwhile, was UTSA's top women's performer, as she registered an 18:43, which was good for 16th place. Fellow frosh Alyssa Diaz was nine spots back in 25th (19:04), while Isabel Balbontin, also in her first season, placed 29th in 19:25.
