WACO — Five different players scored in the first half to lead No. 13 Baylor past UTSA, 5-0, in the season opener for both squads on Friday night at Betty Lou Mays Field.

Vic Hoffman and Bri Campos led the way for the Bears (1-0) with three points apiece with a goal and an assist.

Meanwhile, Laylla da Cruz led the Roadrunners (0-1) with four shots and goalkeeper Katherine Tesno collected five saves in her collegiate debut.

Baylor struck quickly with a goal in the third minute when Campos found Hoffman on the right wing. Hoffman then set up Ashley York’s winner five minutes later.

Kat Ludlow rebounded a free kick and found the back of the net in the 19th minute, while Natalie Huggins and Campos finished the scoring with goals in the 29th and 35th minute, respectively.

Michelle Kloss and Sara Martinson combined on the shutout for Baylor.

UTSA will return to the pitch at 7 p.m. on Sunday when it faces No. 12 Texas A&M (0-1) at Ellis Field.
