SAN ANTONIO — UTSA returns to action on Friday morning when it travels to Fayetteville, Ark., for the NCAA South Central Regional. The women's 6,000-meter race is scheduled to begin 11 a.m. at Agri Park and schools from the states of Arkansas, Louisiana and Texas will make up the field.

The Roadrunners, who are coming off a runner-up performance at the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Championships, will face 23 teams (Arkansas, Arkansas State, Baylor, Central Arkansas, Houston, Houston Baptist, Lamar, Louisiana-Monroe, LSU, McNeese State, North Texas, Rice, Sam Houston State, SMU, Stephen F. Austin, TCU, Texas, Texas-Pan American, Texas A&M, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Tulane, UALR and UT Arlington) in the race that precedes the NCAA Championships.

UTSA came up just short of a WAC Championship two weeks ago when Idaho edged the Roadrunners by only three points, which was the smallest margin of victory in league history. Junior Alyssa Diaz paced UTSA for the fifth consecutive meet with her third-place performance and classmarte Nina Herrera joined her teammate as a first-team all-conference honoree following her seventh-place effort. Meanwhile, freshman Emily Perez (11th) and junior Samantha Fish (13th) both earned second-team All-WAC laurels.

It marked the second straight season that UTSA just missed a conference title. The Roadrunners were only five points behind Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in its final Southland Conference Championships appearance a year ago.

The top two teams, along with the top four individuals not on an advancing squad, will advance to the national meet, which is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 17, in Louisville, Ky.
