SAN ANTONIO —
The women's cross country team will return to the course on Friday
evening when it hosts the annual UTSA Ricardo Romo Classic presented by
H-E-B and Six Flags Fiesta Texas. The 5,000-meter race is scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m. at the National Shooting Complex off Culebra Road (2
Gass Road; San Antonio, TX 78253).
Roadrunners will welcome 10 schools — Concordia Texas, Howard Payne, Incarnate Word, Schreiner, Southwestern, St. Mary's, Texas-Pan American,
Texas-Permain Basin, Texas A&M International and Texas Lutheran — to the meet and a
total of 88 student-athletes will make up the field.
Admission is free and directions to the course can be found in the
related links box toward the top right of this release.
UTSA is coming off a victory at last Saturday's TLU Invitational in Seguin.
The Roadrunners saw all their runners finish in the
top seven en route to successfully defending their team title.
Junior Alyssa Diaz led the UTSA
contingent with the first victory of her career. The Hereford native
circled the 5,000-meter loop in 18:41.24 and she was tabbed Western Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week on Tuesday.
Classmate Samantha Fish
clocked a 19:09.12 for her second consecutive second-place finish to
open the season, while juniors Nina Herrera (19:19.00) and
Jessica Bitterly (19:19.81) and freshman Emily Perez (19:35.78) rounded
out the scorers by finishing in third through fifth,
respectively, which gave UTSA a perfect team score of 15. Sophomore Carly Kitts (19.39.67) and junior Isabel Balbontin (19:48.34) rounded out the top seven.
