FRISCO — Sophomores Albert Cardenas and Cole Reveal were named to the Southland Conference's Men's Cross Country/Track & Field All-Academic Team, the league office announced on Monday.

The distance-running pair opened the season by helping lead the Roadrunners to their best Southland Cross Country Championships finish in 11 years following a third-place performance in Corpus Christi. They then were key components in the program's second indoor/outdoor sweep in the last three seasons during the track & field campaigns.

Cardenas, who maintains a 3.27 grade-point average (gpa) in business, anchored UTSA's Southland Indoor Championship distance medley relay in February and also placed second in the mile at the league’s indoor meet, giving him a combined 10.5 points at the event. The Converse native went on to finish fourth in the 1,500 meters at the Southland Outdoor. Those two performances came on the heels of a 22nd-place effort at last fall’s conference cross country championships. He is a three-time Southland Commissioner’s Honor Roll selection.

Reveal, meanwhile, carries a 3.60 gpa in mathematics. The Frisco native earned a bronze medal in the 1,500 meters at last month’s Southland Outdoor. His sixth-place effort in the 5k at the indoor meet in February helped secure three points for the Birds. Reveal had an outstanding cross country campaign in the fall, as he raced to a 17th-place finish at league championships. He won the Ricardo Romo/Six Flags Fiesta Texas Classic on Sept. 18., which led him to Southland Ahtlete of the Week honors, and he also was victiorious at the Trinity Opener (Sept. 1). Reveal is a three-time Southland Commissioner’s Honor Roll selection.

The team was voted on by the circuit's coaches, sports information directors and academic advisors. Honorees must maintain a miminum of a 3.0 gpa and have competed in at least 50 percent of their team's events during the season.
