FRISCO — More than 600 student-athletes were named to the Southland Conference Commissioner’s Fall Honor Roll, the league office announced on Wednesday.

Five Southland Student-Athletes of the Year, two Players of the Year and a total of 102 student-athletes who finished the semester with a perfect GPA help comprise the list of 667 honorees. The honor roll includes student-athletes who particpiated in men's and women's cross country, football, soccer and volleyball.

UTSA had 42 honorees, a number that included seven student-athletes with a 4.00 GPA. Twenty-five Roadrunners played on the Southland Tournament Champion soccer (14) and volleyball teams (11) that advanced to NCAA Tournament play. Freshman Marie Jose Rojas scored the winning goal in overtime to defeat the No. 1 seed Southeastern Louisiana, which gave the Birds their first-ever Southland Tournament title. Meanwhile, senior Kendra Rowland helped lead UTSA to its second tournament crown against the top seed Central Arkansas. UTSA had the most honorees among the league's non-football-playing schools.

McNeese State led the Southland with 86 honorees.

The Commissioner’s Honor Roll acknowledges participants in all sports sponsored by the league and its member institutions. It is released at the conclusion of the fall and spring semesters, recognizing student-athletes who maintained minimum 3.00 GPA. Student-athletes, nominated by their respective academic advisors, must have been eligible to compete in a conference sport during the academic year in which the nomination occurs.
