SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA men's and women's cross country teams will return to action for the first time in more than two weeks on Saturday when they compete at the Chile Pepper Fesitival and Concordia Texas Invitational. The two meets will be the squads' final tune ups for the Southland Conference Championships, which are scheduled for Oct. 28 in Beaumont.

The Roadrunners will send full teams Fayetteville, Ark., for the 22nd annual Chile Pepper Festival. The men's 10,000-meter run is scheduled for 9:45 a.m., while the women's 5k will follow 45 minutes later and more than 80 teams will compete at the University of Arkansas' cross country course.

Meanwhile, the remainder of UTSA's runners will make the short trip up IH-35 for the Concordia Texas Invitational. The women's 5k commences at 8 a.m. with the men's 5,000-meter race to follow. Teams that will be in attendance include Dallas, Howard Payne, Huston-Tillotson, Our Lady of the Lake, Rice, Southwestern, Texas, Texas A&M-International, Texas A&M-Kingsville, Texas Lutheran, Texas Southern, Texas State and Texas Wesleyan.

Junior Albert Cardenas has been the men's top performer at all four meets this fall. The Converse native is coming off a third-place finish at the Notre Dame Invitational. Freshman Samantha Fish has led the women in the last three outings and she is coming off a 30th-place performance at Notre Dame.
