SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will open its 2013 season bright and early on Saturday morning at the Alamo City Opener, which is being hosted by Trinity at Olmos Basin Park.

The men's 6,000-meter race will start at 8 a.m. and Incarnate Word, Our Lady of the Lake and Texas A&M International will join the Roadrunners and host Tigers in the field.

UTSA, which is beginning its first campaign as a member of Conference USA, returns six runners from last year's squad that finished sixth in its lone season in the Western Athletic Conference Championships.

Mike Medrano paces the returnees following a sophomore campaign that saw him finish as the team's top finisher at five meets, including three consecutive victories in the middle of the season at the TLU Invitational, UTSA Ricardo Romo Classic and Grass Routes Grand Prix. The Mission native went on to place 31st at the WAC Championships and 28th at the NCAA South Central Regional a year ago.
