UTSA falls to Dayton in Sunday's home opener, 5-1
SAN ANTONIO — Juliana Libertin scored a goal in each half to help Dayton build a 5-0 lead and the Flyers spoiled UTSA's home opener on Sunday, 5-1.
Libertin put Dayton (1-1) on top with a winner from Alysha Mallon, who finished the match with two assists, in the fourth minute. The advantage grew to 3-0 at the intermission after Colleen Williams and Ashley Campbell found the back of the net in the 20th and 38th minutes, respectively.
Libertin opened the second stanza with another goal, while Kelsey Smigel made it 5-0 in the 57th minute.
Freshman Simone Boye ended the shutout in the 63rd minute with the Roadrunners' first winner of the season. The Denmark native took a cross from senior Lindsay South and beat goalie Jordin Melchert inside the six-yard box for her first collegiate points.
UTSA (0-2) returns to the pitch on Saturday, Aug. 25, when it takes on No. 14 Texas A&M in a 7 p.m. match in College Station.
