SAN ANTONIO — Taylor Newlin dropped her match play
final at the Women's Texas Golf Association (WTGA) Amateur Championship, while
fellow junior-to-be Fabiola Arriaga carded a six-under-par 66 on the last day
of the Royale Cup Canadian Women's Amateur Championship on Friday.
Oklahoma standout Emily Collins put an end to Newlin's run,
which included a semifinal victory against 2010 USGA Senior Amateur Champion Mina
Hardin, with a 3 and 2 win at McKinney's Stonebridge Ranch Country Club. The
Frisco native opened the event on Monday with a 66 to win the qualifying round
before four match play victories leading up to Friday's final.
Meanwhile at the Lethbridge Country Club in Lethbridge,
Alberta, Arriaga finished in a tie for 22nd place with a 72-hole score of 296
(80-76-74-66). The Torreon, Mexico, native improved her score in each round and
fired seven birdies in the final 18 holes after carding just one in her
previous three rounds.
