NEW YORK, N.Y. — Ernestine Cray leaped to a gold medal performance in the long jump on Friday to highlight the UTSA women's track & field team at this weekend's Armory Collegiate Invitational.

The senior from San Antonio topped the field of 77 jumpers after registering a measurement of 19-8 ¾ (6.01m) for her second personal best in as many weeks (No. 4 performance in UTSA history). Cray edged Portland State's Baileh Simms by an inch-and-a-quarter for her first career victory in the event and she now is in a tie for third place in the Conference USA standings. It marked her fourth podium finish overall this season, as she earned silver medals in her last two outings (Howie Ryan Invitational/Houston Opener) after opening the campaign with a bronze at the Texas A&M Reveille Invitational. She went on to record a PR of 40-9 ½ (12.43m) in Saturday's championship division of the triple jump, which was good for 10th place, and it moved her up to third on the league leaderboard.

Meanwhile, Nina Herrera clocked a program-record time of 2:54.24 en route to a 21st-place performance in the 1,000m. That broke the 10-year-old mark of 2:55.98 established by Leticia Cerna at the 2004 Texas Tech Six-Way.

The Roadrunners also got a school-record performance from their distance medley relay in the final event of the day. The quartet of Herrera, Venessa Onwuchekwa, Stephanie Wangui and Emily Perez passed the baton in 11:39.14 in a runner-up effort to Mississippi State, which finished on top in 11:38.93. The performance vaulted UTSA to the top of the league standings and it marked the second consecutive year that the program standard fell at the meet.

The Roadrunners will return to action next Friday, Feb. 14, at the Houston Tune-Up.
