Roadrunners to take part in J. Fred Duckett Twilight on Saturday

SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA track & field teams will return to action on Saturday when they travel to Houston to compete at the 11th annual J. Fred Duckett Twilight Meet at Holloway Track/Ley Field on the campus of Rice University.

The one-day meet will begin at noon with the hammer throw and the afternoon session will start four hours later with the 110-meter hurdles (click here for complete meet schedule).

Other schools scheduled to compete in addition to the Owls and Roadrunners include Dallas Baptist, Houston, Houston Baptist, Incarnate Word, Lamar, McNeese State, New Mexico State, North Texas, Rice, Southeastern Louisiana, Stephen F. Austin, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and UTPA.

Richard Garrett Jr., Keyunta Hayes, Taylor Reed and Harvinder Singh all captured gold medals for then-No. 22 UTSA at last Saturday's UTSA Invitational.

Garrett Jr., who was tabbed Conference USA Athlete of the Week on Tuesday for the second time this spring, topped the field of 15 shot putters with his measurement of 64-1 (19.53m) and he added a runner-up performance in the discus (178-9/54.48m). Meanwhile, Hayes clocked a 51.42 to lead a Roadrunners 1-2-3-4 finish in the 400-meter hurdles, Reed earned his second victory after surpassed 17 feet (17-1 ½/5.22m) in the pole vault for the third time this year and Singh ran his way to his first-ever victory in the 3,000m.

Whitney Flannel and Lindsey Pew also captured gold medals for the Roadrunners women last Saturday.

Flannel cleared 5-8 (1.73m) to top the field of nine high jumpers and it marked her second victory of the season and fourth top-two performance. Pew registered a mark of 12-7 ½ (3.85m) for her second triumph of the spring in the pole vault. The junior from Mesa, Ariz., won her specialty event by a half foot to lead the field of 11.
