SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA track & field teams will return from a one-month layoff on Saturday when they compete at the Texas A&M 12-Team Invitational. All the action is scheduled to get underway at noon at Gilliam Indoor Track & Field Stadium in College Station.
Joining the Roadrunners at the meet will be the host Aggies, as well as Baylor, Houston, North Texas, Prairie View A&M, Rice, Sam Houston State, Stephen F. Austin, Texas State, Texas Southern and UT Arlington.
The UTSA men opened its indoor campaign with six individual victories and a
program record in the pole vault en route to a runner-up showing at the
three-team Texas A&M Reveille Invitational on Dec. 8.
Leading the
way was senior Taylor Reed, who extended his school
mark in the pole vault with a winning clearance of 17-0 ¾ (5.20m). Meanwhile, senior All-American Richard Garrett Jr. opened his final
season with a winning performance in the shot put and fellow
All-American Keyunta Hayes started his junior year with a gold
medal in the 60-meter hurdles. Other winners included senior
All-American Keith Benford (high jump), senior Roscoe Robinson (long
jump) and junior Nathan Collier (mile).
On the strength of three individual victories and a program record
in the shot put, the women opened their season with a runner-up
performance at the same meet.
The junior distance trio of Grace Williamson (800m),
Nina Herrera (mile) and Samantha Fish (5,000m) all were victorious, while senior Zaquita McClanahan registered a pair of career bests in the
field, including an extension of her school record in the shot put.
