SAN ANTONIO — The men's and women's track & field teams officially will christen the Park West Athletics Complex this weekend when they host the UTSA Texas Challenge Invitational. The two-day meet, which is scheduled to get underway at noon on Friday, will feature Houston, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Texas Tech and admission will be free.

Friday’s action is scheduled to begin at noon with the first five events of the men’s decathlon, the first four events of the heptathlon, hammer throw and javelin. The final events of the multis will start at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday and all the remaining running and field events will commence two-and-a-half hours later (click here for a complete meet schedule).

UTSA's new track & field facility boasts the only Olympic-quality running surface in South Texas. Marked with wider lanes and enhanced subsurface support, the track was constructed to host national and international meets, as well as NCAA Championship events. The stadium currently includes 1,000 seats and a spacious state-of-the-art press box. Open areas surrounding the facility have been designed to house temporary seating up to 10,000 for national and international competitions.

The Roadrunners men are coming off a successful opening weekend at the Country Inn & Suites Islanders Open, registering eight winning performances in the 14 events in which they had entries. Taylor Reed led the way with a school-record performance of 17-2 ¾ (5.25m) in the pole vault.

Meanwhile, the women were equally as impressive, as they racked up a total of six gold medals, including two from Laura Oseghae in the long and triple jumps.
