SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will close its regular season schedule this weekend with a pair of contests at Stephen F. Austin. The two teams will meet at 4:30 p.m. on Friday before concluding the series at 1 p.m. the following day.
Having secured a spot in next week’s Southland Conference Tournament, the Roadrunners (21-26, 10-8 SLC) can finish as high as fourth in the league standings. UTSA enters the weekend tied with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi for fifth place, while both schools sit a game behind McNeese State and Central Arkansas, who are tied for third. Sophomore Molly Fichtner went 2-for-2 on Tuesday in the Roadrunners’ loss to Houston and brought her season average up to .371. The Houston native is hitting .456 in conference play with four doubles, a homer and six RBIs. Junior Haylee Staton is 6-3 with a 2.19 ERA in league tilts, including a pair of shutouts and five complete games.
The Ladyjacks (16-31, 6-12 SLC) have won three of their last four contests, including a pair of victories at Southeastern Louisiana last weekend. Elizabeth Arana leads the team with a .295 batting average to go along with four homers and 21 RBIs. Meanwhile, Carlie Thomas has seen the most action in the circle and she owns a 3.52 ERA and 10-13 record.
UTSA leads the all-time series 39-20, but the squads have split the last six meetings. The Roadrunners took two of three contests in Nacogdoches a year ago and all three games of the series were decided by one run.
