WACO — UTSA left 10 runners on base, including seven in scoring position, and the Roadrunners were unable to break through against No. 14 Baylor in a 5-0 setback on Wednesday at Getterman Stadium.

Senior Carrie Monroe and junior Caitlyn Ivy reached base in all six of their combined plate appearances for the Birds (22-23), who saw their five-game winning streak come to an end.

Monroe led off the game with a walk and the Austin native advanced to third on a passed ball and sacrifice bunt but was unable to cross the plate.

UTSA went on to put the leadoff batter on in all seven frames.

After being stymied by sophomore Haylee Staton for two innings, the Lady Bears (35-8) ended the shutout with single runs in the third and fourth.

Kathy Shelton scored on Megan Turk’s single up the middle in the third, while KJ Freeland touched home on Sydney Wilson’s bunt single an inning later.

Baylor put the game out of reach in the fifth when Kayce Walker and Turk reached base before Dani Leal delivered a three-run home run to right center to make it 5-0.

That was plenty for Courtney Repka (9-2), who allowed just a pair of hits over the final 3.2 innings.

UTSA loaded the bases with one out in the seventh, but Leal made a nice scoop to her left and turned what looked to be a run-scoring single into a game-ending double play.

Staton (5-7) gave up all five runs on nine hits in her four panels.

The Roadrunners host Nicholls (9-30, 2-15 SLC) in their final home series beginning Friday.

The set begins with a 1 p.m. doubleheader and that will serve as the third annual Strike Out Cancer Day. UTSA will be selling ribbons and T-shirts, as well as accepting donations and pledges per strikeout to benefit the San Antonio Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in honor of former player Hope Ortiz, who passed away after an eight-month battle with leukemia in 2008.
