UTSA, which has won its last eight contests against non-conference opponents, will look to extend its five-game winning streak when it travels to Waco to take on No. 14 Baylor at 5 p.m. on Wednesday.
Junior Caitlyn Ivy picked up Southland Conference Hitter of the Week honors after batting .471 (8-for-17) with two home runs and nine RBIs to lead the Roadrunners (22-22) to a 5-0 week. The Huntington native's three-run blast in the bottom of the sixth in game two of the Central Arkansas series erased a one-run deficit and proved to be the difference in the 7-5 victory.
In her most extensive work since returning from a hand injury, sophomore Haylee Staton picked up a pair of wins and a save in three appearances last week. Staton won her only start of the week at Houston Baptist before earning a win and save in relief against the Bears to go along with a 0.70 ERA.
The Lady Bears (34-8) boast five hitters with a .300 or better batting average, led by Dani Leal's .371 clip. She leads in the team in homers (12), RBIs (29) and slugging percentage (.781) and is tied for the team lead with 26 runs scored.
Three pitchers have seen significant time in the circle and the staff owns a collective 1.44 ERA, which ranks third in the Big 12. The group is led by Whitney Canion, who sports a 19-5 record and 0.90 ERA. She also as league-best three saves and ranks fifth in wins (19), strikeouts (204), complete games (17) and opponent batting average (.182).
The Lady Bears lead the all-time series 18-12 and have won the last eight, including a 4-3 victory on Feb. 12 at Getterman Stadium.
