SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will open its 2014 campaign on Friday night at the Alamo City Opener, which will be hosted by Incarnate Word at Live Oak City Park on the town's east side.

The women's 4,000-meter race will start at 6:30 p.m. and Our Lady of the Lake, Texas Lutheran, Texas State and Trinity will join the Roadrunners and host Cardinals in the field.

UTSA, which is beginning its second campaign as a member of Conference USA, returns five runners from last year's squad that captured the league title. It was the program's first conference championship in 17 years and the Roadrunners went on the place fifth at the NCAA South Central Regional.

Leading this year's returnees is Emily Perez. The junior from Mission posted the best individual finish by a UTSA athlete in 17 years with her 10th-place performance at the regional meet and that came on the heels of an eighth-place effort at the conference championships.
