UTSA to hit road for Friday evening matchup at Kansas
SAN ANTONIO — UTSA and Kansas will square off in an early-season matchup of unbeatens at 5 p.m. on Friday at Jayhawks Soccer Complex.
The Roadrunners (2-0) were one of just three Conference USA teams (North Texas and Western Kentucky were the others) to pick up a pair of victories during the season’s opening weekend. Senior Kaytee O’Brien scored goals in each match, including the game-winner in last Friday's season opener against Houston Baptist. Her pair of scores are tied for the most in the league, while goalie Katherine Tesno ranks among the circuit's best netminders with a perfect save percentage in 176 minutes of action.
Meanwhile, the Jayhawks (2-0) have outscored their opponents 6-1 on the strength of a 3-1 victory against Wyoming followed by a 3-0 shutout of SMU last weekend. Junior midfielder Liana Salazar leads the squad, which scored more goals than any other Big 12 team during the season's opening weekend, with two goals on just four shots. Four other players have winners, while Ashley Williams and Eli Mayr each have a goal and an assist. Kaitlyn Stroud has racked up eight saves in playing all 180 minutes in goal for Kansas.
Friday will be mark the first meeting between the two programs.
