UTSA to travel south for Wednesday matchup at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi
SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will return to the road on Wednesday for a 3 p.m. matchup at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
The Roadrunners (16-19), who have played nine of their last 12 games away from the Alamo City, are coming off a 3-2 record last week. UTSA took two games from Houston Baptist in midweek action before dropping two of three at Southern Miss. The squad hit 13 home runs in the five games and it ranks eighth in the nation with 1.29 homers per game. That number has received a boost from Megan Low, whose 15 round-trippers are tied for the most in the nation. In addition, her .913 slugging percentage ranks third in the country.
Meanwhile, the Islanders (7-27) will look to snap a 10-game losing streak overall and a five-game skid against the Roadrunners. Valerie Perez leads the offense with a .340 average to go along with four homers, eight doubles and 21 RBIs. Brittney Morse’s seven round-trippers lead the squad, which is hitting .277. Liz Carter leads the team with a 5.74 ERA, six wins, three shutouts and 61 strikeouts. The staff owns a 7.06 ERA and opponents are hitting .348 against them.
UTSA leads the all-time series against the Islanders 30-17 and hold a 14-10 edge in Corpus Christi. The Roadrunners have defeated Texas A&M-Corpus Christi twice this season with a 10-4 win on Feb. 22 and a 3-2 triumph on March 19 in San Antonio.
