Roadrunners to continue road trip on Wednesday at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi
SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will continue its 11-game road swing at 3 p.m. on Wednesday when it travels down IH-37 to face former Southland Conference foe Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at Chapman Field.
The Roadrunners (13-8) have won four consecutive outings (six of last seven overall). UTSA swept a doubleheader at Houston Baptist behind Siera Sproul’s 5-for-6 effort at the plate. The Liberty Hill native drove in six runs on the day on the strength of a double and home run and she was tabbed the Western Athletic Conference Hitter of the Week on Monday. Her three hits and three RBIs in the opener set new career highs and she plated three more runs in the nightcap.
Sproul ranks fifth in the conference with her .409 batting average, while Megan Low leads the circuit at .449 to go along with a .816 slugging percentage and .635 on-base percentage. Haylee Staton’s 1.84 ERA ranks third and she is tied for the league-lead with a pair of saves.
The Islanders (6-17) come into Wednesday’s game having dropped seven of their last eight outings. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi opened Southland Conference play last weekend by losing two of three home tilts to Houston Baptist.
Meagan McKinney leads the team, which is hitting .214 overall, with a .339 average, two homers and 14 RBIs. Mickayla Cochran and Lindsey Lyles also have a pair of round-trippers this spring. Meanwhile, Constance Bradenburg has started 12 contests in the circle and leads the Islanders with a 4-7 record and 4.64 ERA. She has 35 strikeouts in 69.1 innings of work for a staff that has posted a collective 5.26 ERA.
The Roadrunners lead the all-time series, 25-17, but the Islanders won two out of three meetings last season, including a 2-1 triumph in the Southland Tournament that ended UTSA’s season.
